Kwame Dzokoto, a politician and actor, was well known for his role in Effiewura and Edziban TV Show.

However, further details surrounding the circumstances of his death are yet to be made public by his family or the hospital.
HOW IT HAPPENED – COLLAPSE AT OWASS RADIO
According to eyewitnesses at Owass Radio, Kwame Dzokoto was invited as a panelist for the station’s morning show to discuss national issues, politics and development in the Western Region.
Midway through the discussion, he reportedly started sweating profusely and complaining of dizziness. He then collapsed in the studio, causing panic among presenters and other panelists.
The programme was abruptly ended and he was rushed to the Tarkwa Government Hospital. Unfortunately, all efforts to save his life proved futile as doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Staff of Owass Radio are yet to issue an official statement, but a presenter who was in the studio at the time confirmed the incident off-record, saying everyone in the studio is still in shock.
A HOUSEHOLD NAME – FROM EFFIEWURA TO EDZIBAN
Kwame Dzokoto was not just an actor – he was an institution in Ghanaian entertainment.
He rose to fame through the iconic Ghanaian TV series Efiewura, where he played the unforgettable role of Judge Koboo.
His character was known for his funny but strict rulings, his big grammar, and his ability to bring laughter even in serious court scenes.
For over a decade, Efiewura was one of the most watched Akan drama series in Ghana, and Judge Koboo was one of its biggest attractions.
Apart from Efiewura, he also hosted Edziban, a popular food and cultural show that celebrated Ghanaian cuisine. Through Edziban, he traveled across all 16 regions of Ghana, eating with locals, learning how to prepare traditional dishes like fufu, banku, tuo zaafi, ampesi and many others, and teaching Ghanaians to appreciate their own food.
He was also a comedian, an MC, and a radio presenter who had worked with several media houses.
HIS POLITICAL LIFE AND RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MAHAMAS
Kwame Dzokoto was also a proud member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He contested for the Tarkwa-Nsuaem parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC in 2016.
Though he lost, he remained a loyal party communicator and grassroots organizer in the Western Region.
He was loved by the Mahama family for his loyalty and service.
In fact, some months ago, Kwame Dzokoto recounted how First Lady Lordina Mahama intervened when he was battling serious health complications.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Blakk Rasta on 3FM, Kwame Dzokoto disclosed that Lordina Mahama helped secure support from business mogul Ibrahim Mahama for his treatment abroad.
Hear him in his own words:
“I was battling with BP related to the heart and all sorts of things, but by his grace, the First Lady got to know of it, and then she pressured Ibrahim Mahama. He took me outside for the surgery and all. In fact, I am healthy and doing well.”
“I’m proud of the Mahama family. Their political side is there, but then when it comes to serving humanity, if we have about eight people who decide to take charge to help people in their philanthropic way, I think the world will be a lovely place to live,” Dzokoto noted.
This revelation showed how close he was to the Mahama family and how they had supported him during his health crisis.
HE ADDRESSED VIRAL PHOTO THAT SPARKED HEALTH CONCERNS
Also, Kwame Dzokoto recently addressed a viral photograph that sparked concerns about his health on social media.
In the photo, he appeared swollen and unhealthy, leading many fans to speculate that he was seriously ill.
But in his interview, he explained that the condition seen in the photograph was not the result of a serious underlying illness.
Kwame Dzokoto disclosed that he had stopped taking sugar and had switched to honey as an alternative for health reasons, adding that he later discovered that the honey he had purchased had been mixed with caramel sugar.
He disclosed that consuming the adulterated honey had a temporary effect on his body, causing him to swell.
“That picture was exaggerated, and that was it. But naturally I’m fine,” he said at the time, assuring fans that he was healthy.
Unfortunately, just a month after giving that assurance, news of his reported death has emerged.
Many Ghanaians are calling on the NDC and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to give him a befitting burial and honour him for his contribution to Ghana’s creative arts industry.
FAMILY YET TO SPEAK
As of now, the family of Kwame Dzokoto is yet to release an official statement confirming his death, funeral arrangements and burial date. The Tarkwa Government Hospital has also not released an official medical report.
Our condolences to his wife, children, the entire Dzokoto family, the Efiewura crew, and the NDC fraternity.
Rest in Peace, Judge Koboo. You will forever be remembered.
