BIG NEWS FOR DSTV SUBSCRIBERS IN GHANA – PRICES SLASHED, NEW PACKAGES FROM NOVEMBER 5

BIG NEWS FOR DSTV SUBSCRIBERS IN GHANA – PRICES SLASHED, NEW PACKAGES FROM NOVEMBER 5

There is massive good news for all DStv subscribers in Ghana as MultiChoice Ghana and Canal+ have announced a complete overhaul of DStv subscription packages with huge price reductions.

The new prices will take effect from November 5, 2026, and will see the current six bouquets replaced with four new simplified packages ranging from as low as GH¢50 per month.

This was announced on Monday, October 26, 2026 at a joint press conference in Accra by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and MultiChoice Ghana.

The 4 New DStv Ghana Packages

MultiChoice Ghana says it is replacing the old Padi, Access, Family, Compact, Compact Plus and Premium packages with four new options: Starter, Select, Sports and Ultimate.

Here is the full breakdown:

1. STARTER – GH¢50 per month

The new entry-level package. It will give subscribers access to 90 channels including Africa Magic Epic, Novelas Plus, Cartoon Network, M-Net Movies, G-World, TV3 and UTV. According to MultiChoice Ghana CEO Alex Okyere, “At 50 Ghana cedis, you have all this content,” and the aim is to give every Ghanaian household the opportunity to watch DStv.

2. SELECT – GH¢100 per month

This replaces the former Family package which was priced at GH¢188. Select will offer 123 channels including M-Net Movies, Africa Magic Showcase, CNN and WWE. Okyere says “This pack is even better than Family, but 100 Ghana cedis”.

3. SPORTS – GH¢250 per month

This is the biggest news for football lovers. For the first time, DStv is introducing a dedicated football package. For GH¢250, subscribers will get 100% of DStv’s football proposition.

This includes:

– English Premier League

– UEFA Champions League

– La Liga, Ligue 1, Serie A

– ESPN football coverage, UFC content and selected entertainment channels

The Minister of Communications, Samuel Nartey George, says this will save sports subscribers over GH¢500 monthly.

He explained that subscribers who previously paid about GH¢875 for the full sports package will now pay only GH¢250. This represents more than 60% reduction.

4. ULTIMATE – GH¢570 per month

The top package. It combines premium entertainment with full sports including Formula 1, golf, tennis, MotoGP, and rugby.

Why The Price Cut?

According to Communications Minister Sam George, the government’s engagement with MultiChoice and Canal+ was simple:

“How do we put content in the hands or in the homes of Ghanaian families at a price that is affordable? The Ghanaian consumer is our ultimate interest”.

He said the previous reduction announcement was criticized because subscribers did not see actual cash savings.

“For those who had an issue with the way we announced the previous reduction and said that the value did not result in cash, this time that’s been fixed. This time it’s clear,” he said.

MultiChoice Ghana CEO Alex Okyere stressed that the new prices are a permanent restructuring, not a temporary promotion.

Anti-Piracy Crackdown Coming

The price reduction is also linked to government’s planned crackdown on piracy. Minister Sam George disclosed that government is waiting for an opinion from the Attorney-General before launching a major operation against illegal TV streaming and ghost boxes, also known as pirated decoders.

He said the National Communications Authority (NCA) and Cyber Security Authority (CSA) have already reviewed technical measures including blocking IP addresses used for illegal streaming.

The Minister explained the logic: “If you’re going to make it a high-risk enterprise for people to use pirated boxes, then you need to make it a low-entry access for everybody”.

What Subscribers Should Do

1. Your current bouquet will continue until November 4, 2026.

2. From November 5, you will be automatically migrated or you can choose your new preferred package via MyDStv App, *759# or any MultiChoice office.

3. The GH¢50 Starter at less than GH¢2 a day and the GH¢250 Sports package are expected to attract many new customers.

This is the biggest DStv price reduction in Ghana’s history and it is aimed at making pay TV more affordable and discouraging the use of pirated services and illegal digital boxes.
