Kennedy Agyapong Has NOT Resigned From NPP — Spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng Debunks Viral Resignation Letter

META DESCRIPTION: Reports that Kennedy Agyapong resigned from NPP and submitted letter to John Boadu today Oct 16 2026 are false.

Spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng says Kennedy is in China on business and has not resigned.

Reports circulating on social media today, Thursday, October 16, 2026, that former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong has resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are false, his spokesperson has confirmed.

The viral reports, which started from a post on X (formerly Twitter) by THE STATE NEWS, claimed that Kennedy Agyapong shocked the party by submitting a resignation letter to National Chairman John Boadu.

The post read: “BREAKING — Kennedy Agyapong Resigns from NPP. Kennedy Agyapong shocks party as he submits resignation letter to National Chairman John Boadu.”

The post went viral within hours, sparking debate among NPP supporters and political watchers.

However, Kennedy Agyapong’s team has quickly dismissed the reports.

In a Facebook post today, October 16, his close associate and spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, Esq., who was his campaign spokesperson for the 2026 flagbearer bid, said the reports should be disregarded.

“Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong is currently in China conducting business. He’s not submitted any letter of resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to anyone. Please disregard any such report,” Kwasi Kwarteng wrote.

Kwarteng confirmed that Kennedy Agyapong is currently out of the country on a business trip in China and has not sent any resignation letter to any party official.

*Background to the Rumor*

The rumor comes at a time of internal tensions in the NPP following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general election and the recent presidential primary held on January 31, 2026.

Kennedy Agyapong contested the NPP flagbearer position for the 2028 general election but lost to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to official results, Dr. Bawumia secured 110,643 votes representing 56.48% while Kennedy Agyapong placed second with 46,554 votes representing 23.76%.

Since the primary, there have been disagreements between Kennedy Agyapong and sections of the NPP. Kennedy made public comments criticizing aspects of the party’s record and leadership, including allegations about contracts awarded under the previous NPP administration.

His comments prompted petitions from some party members and Members of Parliament calling for disciplinary action against him.

This is not the first time resignation rumors have circulated. In March 2026, fact-checking outlet GhanaFact investigated similar viral reports that he had broken away from the NPP after losing the primary and found them to be false.

After losing the January primary, Kennedy Agyapong had urged his supporters to remain calm and focus on the future of the party.

*What is the current situation?*

As of today, October 16, 2026, Kennedy Agyapong remains a member of the New Patriotic Party. No official resignation letter has been submitted to the party’s National Chairman or General Secretary.

Political analysts say Kennedy Agyapong still commands significant support within the NPP grassroots, especially among the youth and traders who admire his outspoken nature and business success.

The NPP is currently working to rebuild and unite its members ahead of the 2028 general elections, where Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is expected to lead the party as flagbearer.

http://Kasoanews.com advises readers to disregard the viral resignation report and wait for official communication from Kennedy Agyapong himself or from the NPP headquarters if any major decision is taken.
