2. GHANA BLACK STARS – GFA EXPLAINS WHY COACHING JOB WAS OPENED TO PUBLIC

In Ghana football news, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has explained why it opened the Black Stars coaching job to applicants instead of just headhunting a coach.

According to GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum speaking on TV3 Sports Station today, the decision was influenced by the need to restore public confidence in the recruitment process.

This comes after Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 AFCON qualifiers where the Black Stars lost their opening two Group C matches against Ivory Coast and The Gambia. The position became vacant after Portuguese trainer Carlos Queiroz left.

Asante Twum said: “Every point raised is very valid. However, sometimes you also have to consider the research method you are using to find a solution, especially when you want to restore public confidence.”

He admitted the FA could have approached experienced coaches directly, but decided to invite applications to show transparency and respect for the approach agreed with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

The GFA is expected to shortlist applicants this week and announce a new substantive coach before the next international window. Names like Otto Addo’s return, Pitso Mosimane, and some European coaches have been mentioned by fans.

3. CRISTIANO RONALDO HANDED 30-DAY SUSPENSION – WILL MISS MORE GAMES

Breaking news from Europe – Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day suspension by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) after walking out of the national team camp following a rift with coach Jorge Jesus.

The 41-year-old forward, who now plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, was fined 255 euros and given the minimum suspension for leaving the national team without authorization.

The incident happened after Ronaldo was an unused substitute against Norway on September 27, despite warming up. He then learned he would not start against Denmark on October 1 and left camp on September 30.

Ronaldo later apologized to supporters and said he would accept any punishment. The suspension took effect from October 1, meaning he has already served 19 days. He will miss Portugal’s upcoming qualifier and Al Nassr is waiting to see if FIFA extends it to club football. He has already scored his 981st goal this season after a missile strike delayed an Asian Champions League match.
