Water Tanker Catches Fire and Burns Beyond Recognition at Gomoa Akotsi on Kasoa-Winneba Highway
*META DESCRIPTION:* A water tanker belonging to Nag Fairmount Construction Company working on Kasoa-Winneba dualisation has burnt to ashes at Gomoa Akotsi today Oct 16 2026, causing traffic on Kasoa highway.
A water tanker has been burnt beyond recognition at Gomoa Akotsi on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway early this morning, Thursday, October 16, 2026, causing panic among motorists and heavy traffic congestion on the busy highway.
According to reports by Adomonline and eyewitnesses who spoke to http://Kasoanews.com, the water tanker belongs to Nag Fairmount Construction Company, the contractor currently working on the dualisation of the Kasoa-Winneba Highway project.
The incident happened at Gomoa Akotsi, a few kilometers after Kasoa and Budumburam towards Winneba, around 7:00 am this morning.
Eyewitnesses say the tanker suddenly caught fire while on the road, and within minutes the fire spread across the entire vehicle, burning it to ashes. The driver is said to have escaped unhurt, but the tanker was completely destroyed.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but some eyewitnesses suspect it may be due to mechanical fault or overheating.
The burnt tanker has caused traffic buildup on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway, with vehicles from Kasoa to Winneba and Winneba to Kasoa forced to slow down and use one lane.
This is not the first time such incidents have happened on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway. The road is currently under construction for dualisation, and heavy construction vehicles, tankers and tipper trucks ply the road daily.
Residents of Gomoa Akotsi who spoke to http://Kasoanews.com said they heard a loud explosion and rushed to the scene only to see the tanker in flames.
“We heard a loud sound and saw thick smoke. When we came out, the whole tanker was burning. Fire Service came but by then the tanker was already burnt,” a resident said.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reportedly arrived at the scene to douse the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby bushes and houses.
The dualisation of the Kasoa-Winneba Highway by Nag Fairmount Construction Company started in 2024 and is expected to reduce traffic congestion and accidents on the highway. However, construction works have also caused traffic delays, dust, and diversions for commuters.
Motorists who use the Kasoa to Winneba road daily have been advised to drive carefully, especially around construction zones, and to ensure their vehicles are in good condition.
The Kasoa-Winneba Highway is one of the busiest highways in Ghana, connecting Accra, Kasoa, Budumburam, Winneba, Cape Coast and Takoradi.
Police have not yet released an official statement on the incident as of 9:00 am today, but http://Kasoanews.com will update readers as more information becomes available.
Drivers are advised to expect delays at Gomoa Akotsi today and use alternative routes where possible.
