The transplant was performed on a man in his mid-forties who had been struggling with kidney disease for five years. After undergoing dialysis for a year, the patient decided to pursue a kidney transplant following consultations with medical experts at the center. The surgery, which was led by Dr. Elliot Koranteng Tannor, a consultant nephrologist, was hailed as a major advancement in kidney care.
In a post announcing the feat, @The Asante Nation highlighted that the surgery brought together experts from various medical fields, including urology, nephrology, anesthesiology, and perioperative nursing, who worked seamlessly to save a life. “This remarkable feat brought together professionals from different medical fields, all working together to make this life-saving surgery a success,” the post said.
“This is a milestone we hope to continue, and it’s here to stay in Kumasi,” said Dr. Tannor. He revealed that the cost of the first transplant was around $25,000, with future procedures expected to range between $30,000 and $35,000. Dr. Tannor urged kidney patients to stay optimistic and assured them that his team remains committed to performing more transplants to improve lives.
The success of this transplant offers renewed hope to individuals suffering from kidney disease, as it reduces the dependency on dialysis and provides more accessible life-saving treatment. This achievement highlights the dedication and expertise of the medical professionals involved and serves as a beacon of hope for many patients in need.
