‘The System Is Working’ – Netizens Rejoice As Haruna Iddrisu Announces That Level 100 Students Who Have Paid Admission Fees Will Be Refunded

Haruna Iddrisu, the Education Minister-Designate, has announced a significant initiative to provide financial relief to first-year university students. During his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, he disclosed that students who have already paid their admission fees will receive refunds as part of the ‘No Fees Stress’ policy.

The initiative, introduced by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, aims to make tertiary education more accessible and affordable. GH¢345 million will be  earmarked to cover admission fees for students pursuing general subject areas at public tertiary institutions, excluding professional programs like medicine.

“On the authority of President Mahama, and with the approval of the Minister of Finance-designate, Hon. Ato Forson, this provision will be included in the government’s Reset Budget. The funds will ensure that students undertaking courses in the general subject areas have their admission fees refunded,” Haruna Iddrisu revealed.

He further explained, “We intend to provide that money to the affected universities, at least one to make refund to all those who have already paid those fees.” The funds will be distributed directly to the universities, ensuring eligible students receive their refunds promptly.

This policy is part of President Mahama’s broader vision of fostering a more inclusive and supportive educational system in Ghana. It also fulfills a key promise in the NDC’s manifesto. The government plans to monitor the program’s impact and explore its potential expansion to include more areas in the future, further reducing financial barriers for students and their families.
