Vim Lady revealed that even former President Jerry John Rawlings, who prided himself on being a nationalist, flew abroad to receive treatment under a ‘fake name’ to escape scrutiny.
The U.S. based critic said Ghanaian politicians typically claim to be against the practice when in opposition but once in power, fly themselves abroad for treatment.
Pokuaa described the situation as a damning indictment of the Ghanaian healthcare system.
Conversations about politicians flying abroad for treatment have been reignited after the Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, fell ill last week. The Presidency, in a statement, revealed that based on ‘expert medical opinion’, she will be flown abroad for further treatment.
This move by the NDC comes despite sharply criticizing the NPP for flying officials abroad during their time in opposition, insisting that Ghanaian medical facilities are adequate to heal their diseases.
