Kear’s death occurred on Saturday, January 25, 2025, his father Stephen Kear, also a former 4th precinct police officer, announced in a social media post. No cause of death was stated.
“It is with a very Heavy and broken heart that I want to let you know our beloved son Matthew passed away on Saturday,” Stephen wrote. “Matthew had so much Love to give which he gave freely to everyone who knew him,”
Matthew ‘Matt’ Kear was born in Oceanside on April 2 1997. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy before returning and training to become an NYPD officer. He was a PO in the 1st Precinct, following in the footsteps of his father who was an officer in the 4th precinct in his heyday.
According to the Nassau Police Veterans Association (NPVA), Kear was a dedicated member of the body and always did all he could to lend a helping hand to officers, veterans and the NPVA. He was a great fan of the Buffalo Bills and the NY Islanders.
Funeral arrangements for Kear were announced by his family. Visitation is set for Towers Funeral Home at 2681 Long Beach Rd. Oceanside NY on Wednesday January 29, 2025 and Thursday January 30, 2025. Funeral Mass is slated for 9 a.m. on January 31, 2025 at St. Anthony’s Church on 110 Anchor Ave., Oceanside NY.
