Lil Xelly, who broke through in recent years after grinding away on soundcloud, died on Thursday, January 16th, 2024, reports DC Artists TV.
No cause of death has been released for the prolific young rapper. News of two separate shootings in Rockville sparked speculation, but the identity of the victims have not been released by law enforcement.
Lil Xelly started recording music as a middle schooler, initially putting out tapes on Spinrilla. But it wasn’t until he found soundcloud and started releasing music at an absurd rate that he started gaining some traction in the rap underworld. Xelly was known for having a stellar work ethic which saw him release music at a pace very few artists could compete with. It was a tactic he would maintain all throughout his career.
Johnson’s first project was a 105-song mixtape (yes, really) which he titled More Xelly, released in 2017. After making a splash with more Xelly, Lil Xelly kept his new fans hooked by releasing music at a frenetic pace, dropping at least two projects every single month! As he put it during an interview with thefader: ” I got hella fans who want to hear hella sh*t by me,”

Xelly continued to release music at a frenetic pace long after breaking out from the soundcloud bubble and realizing some mainstream success. His latest project, WTSC, ended up making a splash on both Spotify and Apple Music.
News of Xelly’s death left many of his staunches ‘stans’ rattled, with many rushing to his page to express their shock on is latest post, a music video clip which he had posted on Thursday, the day of his death.
“You was on my everyday rotation brodie. it can’t be true yo I refuse to believe this sh*t,” one stunned fan wrote.
Another said: “No fuckin way!!!!! XELLY yu my fav artist ive said it many times your music is forever !! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Love you thanks for everything,”
