A Plus in an interview with Adom Fm said his Ghc 15,000 net salary as an MP is very small.
“Our salaries are too little. After all deductions are made, we are left with Ghc 15,000,” he said in Twi. “It’s not good,”
A former musician and comic, A Plus revealed that as a private citizen, he earned more in a day than his entire current Member of Parliament’s salary, pointing to the year 2020 as a period of great boom for him.
“When I look at my turnover for 2020, one of these days I’ll make my bank statement public…the amount of money I was making in a day was more than my entire salary as an MP,” he added.
A Plus said Members of Parliament must be commended because they are doing a lot of work for very little remuneration. He admitted that prior to entering Parliament he had a wrong perception of MP’s but now understands why they call for their benefits to be increased.
Obeng served as a political and social critic for years, helping to elect and takedown many governments by exposing the excesses of politicians. Since becoming an MP, he’s expressed more sympathy for the plights of politicians, revealing he now understands things a bit more from their side of the aisle.
