Aside from Quaye’s personal bank accounts, all accounts of his companies, Bills Micro Credit and Quick Credit, were also frozen, as were the bank accounts of the Bills Micro Credit Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Romeo-Richlove Kweku Seshie.
The action was taken by the FIC in accordance with Section 56(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044). According to Citinewsroom, Quaye owes about GHS 30 million in personal income tax.
News of this action comes days after Quaye held an extravagant birthday celebration for himself in Accra that saw the attendance of all the big names in Ghanaian high society.
Celebrities from Ghallywood, Kumawood, comedians, musicians, businessmen, and more were all in attendance at the massively opulent 40th birthday bash held at the Black Star Square.
Quaye also secured the services of artists such as Sarkodie, King Promise, Stonebwoy, Davido, Efya, and Diamond Platnumz, to perform, not to mention paying Nigerian celebrities such as Ramsey Nouah, Ini Edo, and Rita Dominic, to grace the occasion.
Social media users wondered the origin of all this wealth for Quaye, who had purchased a $3m Bugatti Chiron and a private jet just days prior to the party. In response, he told Bola Ray in an interview that he owns close to 30 companies and was massively wealthy a decade ago.
A few days after the party, the FIC froze all his accounts. It remains to be seen if he remains wealthy after these actions or he becomes the next NAM 1, who reigns for a short while and then goes bust!
