Elly Colon passed away ‘far too soon’, according to a GoFundMe set up by her family to aid in covering funeral and memorial service costs. No cause of death was listed.
Colon, who was queer, had a vivid and active social life in New York City. News of her demise hit many of her friends hard as they came out to mourn her in droves.
Tributes to Colon revealed she was kind, generous, loving, and a fun personality.
“My sweet beautiful friend elly. we met in 2019 freshman year of college. i’m so lucky to have been in their orbit, to experience the community and joy and love they created everywhere they went. the ellyverse is forever,” read one tribute from Hannah Evie.
“She is one of the very few people who i can confidently say knew me wholly and completely; i never felt afraid or embarrassed to tell her anything, because that’s just the kind of person she was. she could see someone at their absolute worst and still never let them forget how much she loved them. she saw the good in everyone,” wrote another friend, Turkish Princess.
Elly’s family noted she loved advocating for mental health issues, particularly for paying attention to children’s mental health. Several other tributes for Elly noted the same passionate and loving personality.
A memorial service for Elly is planned for February 1st, 2025. Her family’s GoFundMe, organized by Mickie Lewis of Plainview NY to help with the preparation, had raised approximately $21,000 at the time of publishing this piece.
