The Madina market clean-up is part of a series of events Ocloo has introduced in her bid to make Accra Ghana’s cleanest city, an aim that none of her predecessors, despite their promises, were able to accomplish.
The newly appointed minister has made sanitation a major objective of her administration and has announced the establishment of a Regional and National Sanitation Day during which more clean-up exercises would be undertaken.

Despite her best efforts, social media users were not impressed and called for a more serious approach to tackling the problem than simply going to the ground to pick rubbish.
“Instead of formulating the right policies and structures, an elected and appointed official deems it appropriate to sweep,” one user wrote on Twitter.
Another said: “Let’s laid down a proper sanitation foundation all this na wash,”
