5 Ways to keep your relationship healthy
Communication, trust, and appreciation are a few of the key elements to foster a healthy relationship. However, there are a few more ways to keep the spark alive.
Below are five ways to keep your relationship strong and healthy according to Marriage.
Set goals as a couple
Discuss with your partner where you see yourselves in the next five to 10 years, and then work towards that goal. As the years go by, try adding more goals as a couple as this will strengthen your relationship.
Prioritise your partner
Another way to keep your relationship happy and healthy is to make your partner a priority.
“Relationships, against what is commonly believed, are not as challenging to maintain as they are said to be,” says marriage and family therapist Marcie Scranton. “Inculcating some habits and behaviours in your daily life is sufficient to keep your relationship healthy.”
Separate identities
In relationships, couples often try to match their partner’s identity, later losing track of themselves.
The person may then become heavily dependent on their partner which may put a strain on the relationship. Thus, separating your identities is important.
Don’t argue over money
Such an argument is sure to put a strain on any relationship. “If you haven’t yet talked about how money is earned, spent, saved, and shared, do it now,” advises Marcie.
Resolve arguments together
If an argument arises between you and your partner, think of your disagreement as a problem for both of you to solve, and not a fight for you to win.
“Think of saying ‘we’ before giving in to the temptation of casting blame on the other person,” explains Marcie.
