Addressing the members of the NPP’s student wing, the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), Agyapong, who is a one-time NPP flagbearer aspirant, said the party can win back power if they unite behind a common purpose.
He said the party could easily claim back power and called for members not to despair or lose hope.
Agyapong promised to lead the party to victory in the 2028 elections, enthsiastically muttering his ‘showdown’ catch phrase.
The wealthy businessman, who owns Kencity Media (operators of Net 2) amongst a slew of other businesses, contested for the NPP flagbearership for the 2024 elections but lost to the then-incumbent Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Bawumia lost the 2024 elections to former President John Dramani Mahama and is expected to mount a second challenge for the Presidency in 2028. Agyapong, who is also eyeing 2028, is expected to be the former Vice President’s stiffest challenger in the party’s flagbearer race.
